#10 - Renewal
Kara Monroe
Welcome to the five new subscribers who joined our community since last week. I’m so glad you’re here.
Where do you need to seek renewal? Where do you need to stop renewing something that is no longer serving you?
Renewal has three meanings:
resuming something after an interruption
extending the validity of something like a license or subscription
replacing or repairing something that is worn out or broken down
I often pair renewal with other words like relax or recharge. That really pulls from that last definition. Often I’m the thing that is worn out or broken down and so I need to seek some renewal time.
I thought about renewal a lot during Holy Week as I am continuously trying to seek renewal in my faith. It feels as though something in my spiritual relationship is always a little - or a lot - worn out and broken down.
I’ve often been thinking about renewal this week as I’ve had a frustrating couple of weeks with some technology tools. If you know much about me, you know that I’m a techno-nerd. Yet, I’ve got three pieces of hardware that are only functioning intermittently. I’ve been trying a wide array of options to fix these tools because they are definitely not worn out - one is less than a year old, but they are definitely broken down.
All of this thought of renewal is also apropos to the change in weather that - hopefully - we are experiencing this week here in Indiana. It looks like we’ll have a final snow, or at least frost, when we wake up today. It will be 80+ by the end of the week. This type of change just makes me want to get outside and enjoy.
Renewal is often important as we continue to think about April as Financial Literacy Month. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve forgotten to cancel a renewal and paid money for something I wasn’t using. I have experienced a lot of anger and shame with myself over these mistakes.
So, as you think about all of these examples of renewal, I have some questions for you to ponder:
What do you need to renew in your own life?
What part or parts of you are feeling in need of repair or replacement?
What do you need to cancel so that it doesn’t renew?
What I published this week
I’ve been focusing so much on twitter (currently doing Tweet 100) and YouTube that I miss long form writing. I’ve got a couple of pieces in the hopper that I plan to publish this week. In the meantime, a couple of videos made it out this week.

One of the things I love is helping others flourish and thrive. My beautiful niece Amanda has started her own business as a baker. Amanda is an incredible baker and I’m so glad I get to say that I was with her the very first time she made French macarons. From that intriguing first experience where we “sifted” flour with a grater because that’s what the vacation house had to now, Amanda has tested and perfected macaron making. If you would like some French macaron for a special event - or just to enjoy yourself, please reach out to Amanda at amanda.c.stout@gmail.com. They are $20 a dozen and she does not ship so you must be able to pick them up from Hagerstown Indiana area (Wayne County near Richmond) or Greenfield Indiana area (Central Indiana). Her flavors and color combos are amazing. This is a photo someone tagged her in on Facebook of some of her beautiful creations.
A few of Amanda's gorgeous macarons.
