Happy 100th
On Valentine’s Day in 2022, I sent out my first issue of this newsletter. I was about a month into my “new” life - starting my own consulting business and being my own boss. As I looked back at that first newsletter, I’m not surprised I wrote about the fact that owning my own business is one of the most values aligned things I’ve ever done. My top values are
Freedom
Authenticity
Growth
Compassion
Integrity
Creativity
I have loved the Freedom I’ve gotten to enjoy over these last two years. I have also gotten to express myself more authentically than ever before. I can express political beliefs and opinions in a way I didn’t feel able to do as a high ranking officer of a public education. And, oh, how I’ve grown. These two years have been wonderful and challenging and beautiful and devastating. And, I’m so grateful to all of you who invite me into your inbox every week.
As we move forward into the next 100 issues, I want to bring you even more content that is full of value and interest to you. Writing is a creative outlet that I love and never have enough time to do.
I’d love to know if you have a favorite moment or issue from the newsletter. Just hit reply and let me know. Or, what would you like to learn or hear more about? I’m always looking for writing inspiration.
Some Things You Might Find Interesting
What I published: Last week, I teased a surprise for you. I am not sure what I was thinking about at that time. We’ll call it cancer haze and I’ll apologize if you were really looking forward to a surprise. I did make a lot of article notes this week but was feeling so lousy with a cold and balancing a bunch of medical appointments, I knew I wouldn’t have any time to write.
Keep Up With My Cancer Journey: Speaking of cancer haze and doctor’s appointments, I will be starting radiation any day now. I do plan to write up a post about the end of chemo and start of radiation this week. If you’d like to follow along in more detail on this journey, you can request access to my Cancer Journey website at https://www.mylifeline.org/invitation/Monroe4702670/c4d9a0945939697870a9267ec2cd951230b25b0e9f023ca466233659967b5e46
The Finch App: A friend introduced Gayle and I to the Finch App several months ago. It is an adorable app that helps you with your “self care” goals. I actually think it’s great for starting and keeping various habits and goes beyond self care. The animation is adorable and it allows a space to connect with friends. If you choose to download it, my friend code is CZKRPMSJ5Y.
Argylle: Over the weekend, we watched Argylle on Apple+. While it has gotten TERRIBLE reviews, both Gayle and I loved it. It was quirky and funny. It’s rare that both of us pay attention all the way through a movie - no naps, very little phone scrolling. This was one of those movies. I predict it will become a film with a cult following in another five years when people look back on it more.

Get cash back at the pump
I’ve been using Upside for well over a year now to get cash back at the pump at occasionally at restaurants and on groceries. With upside, you can also see where gas is cheapest which, especially right now, is handy. To get started using Upside, download the app (links below) and sign up for an account. If you’re so inclined, you can enter my referral code: KARA3995. Then, join me in getting cash back. I’ve earned about $50 in six months through nothing more than a check in when I get gas. I don’t drive much anymore though so I know folks who have earned much more since they fill up their tank far more often than I do.
Get started today by downloading the app and signing up. Don’t forget - referral code KARA3995: Apple or Android
