#14 - Words and Moments
Kara Monroe
I will be traveling next week when newsletter 15 is supposed to publish. If it comes out, all went well. If not, then I’ll be back just after I return.
Words and Moments
I had a bittersweet moment this past weekend. The organization that I gave nearly a quarter century of my life to honored me with the awarding of an honorary degree. I’ve known this was coming for a while as it all transpired before I left but as it has drawn closer I’ve experienced a lot of emotions around the ceremony.
Allow me to digress for a moment. My acquaintance Shadows (not her real name but the moniker she has adopted for social media and how we refer to her in our co-working space) publishes a daily newsletter that includes four prompts to inspire your writing - a word, a fiction prompt, a non-fiction prompt, and a quote.
Now, back to our story…I had coffee with one of my former team members - and more importantly one of my friends, Sarah - on Wednesday morning. She gave me a small gift to celebrate the honorary degree. When I returned home and read Shadows’ newsletter, the word prompt was bijou.
I wasn’t familiar with bijou so I looked it up. Per our friends at Merriam Webster, bijou means: 1 : a small dainty usually ornamental piece of delicate workmanship : jewel. 2 : something delicate, elegant, or highly prized. What Sarah gave me certainly represents the second of those definitions. This bijou is a treasure and commemorates our time at the organization together - representing our common work.
The day was wonderful - a great time to celebrate with friends and family. The honor is delightful but getting one additional opportunity to celebrate student commencement with my work family was really the best award I could have received. Honors really aren’t why we’re here on earth. They are nice, but we’re really here to simply walk each other home.

What I Published This Week
Well this is disappointing. I didn’t officially hit publish on anything this week. I did create the “Media Kit” on my website but otherwise, I published nothing.
One of the things I’ve struggled the most with is finding routine in my new life. It remains a struggle. Back to the drawing board for next week - particularly because I will be traveling when next week’s newsletter is published so I have to accelerate my schedule and routines to make sure at least my newsletter comes out next week.
Tools, Tips, and Tricks
You Can Design Your Own ‘Official’ Emoji
One of my life goals is to submit and have my own emoji design created. You can too now through July 31, 2022. Submissions are open from now through the end of July.
There are a lot of note-taking “plug ins” for Zoom and other online collaboration tools. Thus far, the most affordable and best quality appears to be Airgram. What makes it different is it syncs audio and video with the transcript and allows you to make short snippets from the original recording. The link below is an affiliate link that gives you and me 20 hours free if you decide to give it a try.

Spider-Man No Way Home Bloopers Could Be Its Own Movie
If you haven’t figured it out by now, I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I adore Tom Holland - he is just too precious. These made me chuckle. I hope they make you chuckle too.
