The photo above is my view out the sun porch window of the back of the lodge and the mountains while I’m trying to publish the newsletter. Sorry for the poor photo quality. I had to take it with the laptop camera because the phone wouldn’t sync up. Hopefully the Internet holds up to schedule the send on this!
One of the mantras I’ve always tried to follow - and which I had to really lean on in COVID is to go with the flow. With all the planning and careful checking and preparation I do before trips and events, I could get really angry or upset when things aren’t exactly as I expect. Or, I can go with the flow.
No matter how much I plan, it seems that my expectations aren’t fully met. I have chosen to just go with the flow and realize that barring injury or a serious financial liability these things usually work out in the end.
Gretchen Rubin has this saying that the worst things that happen make the best memories. But that’s only true if you are also able to go with the flow. My very worst travel memory is our plane flights to Barcelona before our Med cruise when our luggage didn’t arrive with us. Gayle and I had to go back to the airport the next morning and pray that our luggage had arrived. Thankfully it did and the rest of the trip was wonderful. That said, that occurrence is still often not a good memory.
So, it’s not a perfect art but I’m always a work in progress.
How do you focus on going with the flow and staying in the experience rather than letting frustration take you away from the experience?
Short essay this week as I’m going to continue to enjoy our last night at Glacier Lodge before we head out by train again tomorrow. For those wondering, I will be doing a full write up about the trip and will share that in the “What I Published” section in the next two weeks. I’ve got a work trip almost as soon as I get back from this trip so not sure if the write up will get all done and posted before that trip or have to wait. I do have a couple of other highlights from the trip in the diversions and What I published section below.
What I published this week
I finally finished my “Wednesday Walk” series from my trip to New York City back in late April/Early May.

I am completing my series of walks around New York City for #wednesdaywalk (by @tattoodjay). If you’d like to read my ot… by iwannabeme
I’ve published a few early posts about the trip on my Facebook Feed if you want to see pics with limited text added.

What I'm Reading
I finished “The Cartographers” by Peng Shepherd on the trip - it was as wonderful as I thought it would be when I started it last week. I highly recommend.
Tiago Forte’s Building A Second Brain - which I bought on pre-release - was released this week and I started it. Right now, I think the book is far better than his ridiculously overpriced course.
I am also finishing “The Blue Zones” by Dan Buettner. The stories are interesting but the point of the book is the last chapter. I skimmed a LOT of his expositional stories in the first few chapters of the book.
Now that I got one good fiction book under my belt, I’m starting “The Friend Zone” by Abby Jimenez to see if I can keep fiction going. This is the first of a three part series so hopefully it will hook me!
Diversions
I have two videos for you this week - both focused on this trip. The second is the REAL treat.
I have taken a LOT of video on this trip. I plan to edit it together with photos into something really fun showcasing this probably once in a lifetime experience. For now, I went with what I could figure out how to edit on my phone so no fancy transitions and no fancy graphics or audio. Just a few straight out of the camera videos strung together.

Music is a big focus of the history of Glacier Park Lodge. My sister Susie added to that history last night playing three songs. This is her playing “The Piano Man”. If you click through to my channel on YouTube you can also hear her playing New York State of Mind and Take Me Out to the Ballgame.
