62 - Three ways to bring more "vacation vibe" to your everyday life
Three ways to bring more “vacation vibe” to your everyday life
One of the great things about being self-employed is that my boss, aka me, approves all of my vacation time requests. In fact, there is no request process at all. If I want to take a vacation day, I simply take it. And, as I sit on the couch in my Disney resort and type this, I’m on vacation right now.
There is something about the free flowing nature of vacation that just puts me in a better mood. As we were enjoying our “settle in” day at the resort today, I noticed three ways I try to take the vacation vibe with me wherever I go and I thought I’d share those with you here:
Give your life a soundtrack. If you’ve ever attended my Quarterly Reviews or a Facts of Life Book class, you’ve heard my “Get to Work” playlist - mostly instrumental, some show tunes, a little Disney, some pop covers - all feel good music that makes me smile as I do all the things a small business owner does. I have a “Start the Day” playlist, a “Walk On Songs” playlist, and a “Jubilate” playlist in honor of my friend Debbie once calling me Jubilant. Whatever the mood that might strike you in the day, create a playlist to make the mood move in the positive direction.
Plan Your Meals. To eat at Disney requires some planning. If you want a character dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table - a tough get for anyone - you gotta work for it. We aren’t into character dining but to manage budget, time, and moods we often go into a vacation with a bit of a meal plan. When I do this at home it reduces the stress of mealtimes and I am better on my body and the planet.
Get outside. We watched fireworks from the beach tonight and it was glorious. While I’m tired and even a slight bit chilled, the fresh air was phenomenal. I don’t even question taking Kona for a walk every day at lunchtime now (except when the weather is really bad) and if we somehow miss our lunchtime walk, we always try to get in some fresh air time sometime during the day.
How do you find vacation vibes in every day life? I’d love to know. Just hit reply.

Creative Work Hour - Every single day of the week, at 10 a.m. eastern, a group gathers online in Zoom to do a quick check in, a brief meditation, work for about 50 minutes on whatever they want to do, and then check out with one another for 5 minutes. Creative Work Hour is one of my favorite places to hang out online and I’ve been there every single day that I could be there since about March of 2022. Come as often or as little as you need to get projects done. To register for the sessions (they are free but you have to sign up to get the zoom link) and to learn more, visit https://lu.ma/CreativeWork.
Photo of the Week
Kona got to clean out the last of a Peanut Butter jar this week. He’s hanging with his grandpa while we’re gone.
Paradigm Hospice had a volunteer appreciation luncheon last weekend that was loads of fun. I met my friend Caroline for coffee at Coat Check Coffee - my fave Indy coffee shop.
And, we’re overdosing on sugar with donuts from Everglazed this week.
Tools, Tips, & Tricks
Free photo and video filters with Facebook
Gayle and I shoot a lot more photos and videos when we’re on vacation - especially at Disney since she is an authorized Disney Travel Agent. She passed along this tip and we’ve both been making use of it - even for photos and videos we don't plan to share on social media.
Open Facebook to your profile.
Begin a post and add the single photo or video to it you want to filter.
When the photo or video opens, click the Edit button (it’s on the top left on iPhone).
Click the Effects button (bottom left on iPhone) and then apply the effect you want.
Click the Save button (it’s on the bottom of the image second from the left on iPhone).
That saves the edited image to your camera roll. Delete the post (just close out of the edit window and then out of the post and it will ask if you want to save or discard the post - just discard).
Diversion
This week had to have a Disney theme - right?!
I was going to share the Disney Parody from YouTube but it’s definitely NSFW and some would consider it poor taste so I’ll leave you to Google that if you wish.
Instead, as we drove to the airport for a trip to Disney, we were listening to a Disney Cruise Line podcast and alas - we missed something. On our trip on the Disney Wish, we missed the “Disney Tales in One Minute” by the MainStage Players. Here is a sample of Tangled in One Minute.
