Moving Right Along…
TL;DR:
Look at your things and your space from the perspective of moving to a new home and decide what you would change.
What part or parts of your home are you not using to your full advantage right now?
I have moving on the mind. Gayle and I have been looking at houses together for the last couple of months. We even came close to putting in an offer on a house this past week. The realtor is coming to my house later today to start the process of putting my house on the market.
This brings me to today’s lesson which I have NOT DONE for the last several years - and that is what I call “moving without moving” which is an idea taken from one of my favorite series of books - The O’Malley Family. COVID made this much, much harder and my house and my body packed on the pounds.
So, over the last few weeks and months I’ve been cleansing the weight - and the walls and floors - just trying to make my house lighter and more inviting. I’m nowhere near done and when this move happens - assuming it does - I’ll probably still move things that won’t get used after being moved. But I’ll be a littler lighter all the way around and that is a good way to kick off the summer!
4 Things You Might Find Interesting
What I published this week: I have successfully published every day in June thus far! Based on what I’ve learned from keeping up with this streak, I’m planning to put some tweaks to my writing process to make it less laborious this week. Here is what I published:
It’s almost time for the Quarterly Review - and with it my brand new community and course site will launch officially! Get in on the fun of the launch by purchasing the Quarterly Review now for 50% off either the all access pass (get all of the remaining activities throughout the year) or just the workshop. Click the link to automatically apply the coupon or use SUMMER2023 at checkout. Being a member before the launch will guarantee you get access to all the new full benefits for at least a year to come as one of my early subscribers and supporters!
As Gayle and I get into full prep mode for our coming Northern European vacation, I’ll be sharing more of my favorite travel tips and hacks. Here are two more:
Buy duplicates and/or make small bottles of all of your personal care items like make up, etc. Keep a travel bag packed so you don’t run the risk of forgetting anything when traveling. It’s a little expensive to invest in the duplicates up front, but this is so worth it. It’s saved me so much time and hassle over the years.
In my Facts of Life Book course (use code FRIEND1 for 50% off for all those great community benefits when this moves to my new platform later this summer), I have a whole unit on personal documents. I’ve been so grateful that I have easy and ready access to duplicate copies of birth certificates (one is always in my travel case) as well as digital scans of all of my personal documents in a safe convenient digital form. If the originals ever got lost, I would at least have the digital copies as backups and support for getting replacements.
What are the must do things if you were taking a once in a lifetime cruise to Northern Europe and spending a few extra days in Copenhagen? I’ve had so much fun living vicariously through friends at Gulf Shores and others while they are traveling that I have whole lists of things to do if I ever visit these places. Have suggestions for me? And, why not try keeping lists of your own for places you want to visit some day.
I finished the book, The Joy of X, this week. It left my mathematics nerd heart so happy. I listened to the book rather than reading it which did make keeping up with some of the math a little challenging. But a reference to videos by Vihart on YouTube caught my attention and I lost a good bit of time exploring her lovely YouTube channel. I’m sharing two videos with you - both of the ones referenced in The Joy of x. If you listen to the music box all the way through, notice how the octaves change once she reaches the tape and begins playing the “back” side of the mobius strip.

Get cash back at the pump
I’ve been using Upside for well over a year now to get cash back at the pump at occasionally at restaurants and on groceries. With upside, you can also see where gas is cheapest which, especially right now, is handy. To get started using Upside, download the app (links below) and sign up for an account. If you’re so inclined, you can enter my referral code: KARA3995. Then, join me in getting cash back. I’ve earned about $50 in six months through nothing more than a check in when I get gas. I don’t drive much anymore though so I know folks who have earned much more since they fill up their tank far more often than I do.
Get started today by downloading the app and signing up. Don’t forget - referral code KARA3995: Apple or Android
