91 - Do Future You a Favor
Do Future You A Favor
Yesterday evening, I had to do a task that I find annoying - refilling Kona's food container. The process isn't difficult or even all that time consuming. It's just one of those life maintenance tasks that has to be done regularly - kind of like unloading the dishwasher or folding and putting away the laundry.
As I trekked out to the garage yesterday and opened up the large container of food that I store the 30 pound bag in, I thought of how much easier this task was to do now instead of in a morning when the garage is dark and even colder. I thought, "Future You will thank you for this." And, hence, today's article was born.
There are lots of tasks that you could leave until they MUST be done. However, future you will thank you for not leaving them until the last minute. Future you will be grateful that you did the task at a moment that is less hurried or a moment that is in daylight instead of darkness.
I mentioned my "aha" to Gayle as I returned from the garage. We immediately started brainstorming a little list of things that might fall into this category of favors for future you:
packing your lunch in the evening so you don't have to do it in the morning
meal planning for the next week on Friday or Saturday so you don't have to figure out what's for dinner each day
laying out your outfit the night before so you know everything is clean and wrinkle free before you get up in the morning
These are just a very few of the types of things that you could do as favors to future you. But they don't have to be small things either. They can be much larger lifestyle types of things like eating well, exercising regularly, or going to bed earlier.

What I published: The good news is this was an incredibly busy week for Monarch Strategies LLC. The bad news is, I didn’t publish any long form content other than last week’s newsletter.
Keep Up With My Cancer Journey: If you’re reading this on Monday, I’m heading into the “good week”. This is the week of each chemo cycle where I don’t have treatment. I’m also off steroids and have been for a few days which means I’m usually sleeping better. I try to book outings with friends and more taxing work stuff during this week. I still need to do the post on Chemo cycle 3 this week. If you’d like to follow along in more detail on this journey, you can request access to my Cancer Journey website at https://www.mylifeline.org/invitation/Monroe4702670/c4d9a0945939697870a9267ec2cd951230b25b0e9f023ca466233659967b5e46
Screenshots on your iPhone: I just learned a new way to take a screenshot on my iPhone. Just say “Hey Siri, screenshot this.”
US National Figure Skating Championships: We are all about the Olympic Sports all the time in our house. While this is a summer Olympics year, we had a fun time watching US National Figure Skating this weekend. This was one of the best performances I’ve seen in a while - and what I appreciate most from this young man is that he is working so hard to improve his artistry which - when you jump like he does isn’t necessarily a must do - but as with many athletes he’s trying to improve for himself.

Get cash back at the pump
I’ve been using Upside for well over a year now to get cash back at the pump at occasionally at restaurants and on groceries. With upside, you can also see where gas is cheapest which, especially right now, is handy. To get started using Upside, download the app (links below) and sign up for an account. If you’re so inclined, you can enter my referral code: KARA3995. Then, join me in getting cash back. I’ve earned about $50 in six months through nothing more than a check in when I get gas. I don’t drive much anymore though so I know folks who have earned much more since they fill up their tank far more often than I do.
