93 - What's the next action?
What’s the next action?
I was having trouble deciding what to write about this week. I always have lots of article and video ideas but narrowing down to what is good content for my newsletter is challenging sometimes. I was thinking and thinking and thinking and realized that what I needed to do was put fingers to keyboard and just write. That was the next action that needed to occur. Even if what I was typing was terrible or didn’t make sense for the newsletter, at least I was doing the thing that led to the newsletter getting done.
This “what’s the next action” thinking is a really great way to move past procrastination. For example, it’s tax time here in the US which means pulling together documents and filling out a bunch of forms. It’s so easy to put this task off. But it’s also easy to simply take one more action towards getting your taxes done. For me, that next action is downloading and saving my mileage log to the folder where I keep all the stuff for my tax person. Will that finish my taxes? No. But it will get me one step closer to getting them done. I may also find that there are a couple of other actions I can take to move even closer to getting the taxes done after I download the mileage form.
So, the next time you find yourself procrastinating, instead of looking at the end goal, look ahead only to the next action and see if you can take that.

Get cash back at the pump
I’ve been using Upside for well over a year now to get cash back at the pump at occasionally at restaurants and on groceries. With upside, you can also see where gas is cheapest which, especially right now, is handy. To get started using Upside, download the app (links below) and sign up for an account. If you’re so inclined, you can enter my referral code: KARA3995. Then, join me in getting cash back. I’ve earned about $50 in six months through nothing more than a check in when I get gas. I don’t drive much anymore though so I know folks who have earned much more since they fill up their tank far more often than I do.
