94 - What's Your Dream?
What’s Your Dream?
In this month of feeding my spirit, I decided to finally engage with a project I’ve wanted to start on forever but that felt too daunting. I started going through my mountain of book and article notes captured with Readwise and sent to my note-taking app, Obsidian. There is a lot of wonderful content buried in all those sources that might be great information for newsletters, articles on Medium or blog posts, and for use with coaching and consulting clients. In all, there are more than 3000 pieces of content that I can go back through in my Readwise library as it captures highlights from articles, tweets, podcasts, and books. From just two sources this weekend, I wrote 5 new articles for Monarch Strategies LLC and created at least 5 new coaching or course exercises for use with clients, here in newsletters, and in courses on my community. I started my note-making project with the book 168 Hours by Laura Vanderkam. I’ll be publishing some of my notes from the book in the community later this week. But, today, I want to get your week started with some inspiration. And, that is to make a “List of 100 Dreams”. Vanderkam popularized this exercise which was created by Caroline Ceniza-Levine. I would put this exercise in the category of values discovery as putting down your dreams on paper allows you to see where the gaps are in your life between what you really want an how you are actually living.
I read 168 Hours for the first time during COVID. It was a good time to, as Ceniza-Levine calls it, get my passion muscle moving again. Cancer feels a bit like that too. Gayle and I had a serendipitous moment this week where we both decided that we need to try to get the heck out of Indiana for a bit if all the doctors will clear it. It has been great reigniting my passion for travel and allowing myself to dream for a while.
You can do this exercise on any old piece of paper, but if you’d like to download my template, you can grab it from the community. If you give this a try, I hope you’ll share it with me. You can comment on this post in the app or hit reply in your email to let me know what you think and what dreams you’re most excited to pursue.

Keep Up With My Cancer Journey: The last week was really rough but I’m exceedingly grateful to be feeling almost like myself again today. Didn’t get my week 4 post done last week like I’d hoped so have it on my list again for this week. If you’d like to follow along in more detail on this journey, you can request access to my Cancer Journey website at https://www.mylifeline.org/invitation/Monroe4702670/c4d9a0945939697870a9267ec2cd951230b25b0e9f023ca466233659967b5e46
Parlez vous Olympics! Gayle and I are ENORMOUS Olympics fans and we’ve been indulging in loads and loads of pre-Olympic content already this year. One of our favorites was the show Chasing Gold which appears to have only run 12 episodes - all during 2023. It’s available free on YouTube and does a good job of looking at Winter and Summer athletes and includes good coverage of Olympic and Paralympic athletes. If you love the Olympics like we do, it’s good to check out.

Get cash back at the pump
I’ve been using Upside for well over a year now to get cash back at the pump at occasionally at restaurants and on groceries. With upside, you can also see where gas is cheapest which, especially right now, is handy. To get started using Upside, download the app (links below) and sign up for an account. If you’re so inclined, you can enter my referral code: KARA3995. Then, join me in getting cash back. I’ve earned about $50 in six months through nothing more than a check in when I get gas. I don’t drive much anymore though so I know folks who have earned much more since they fill up their tank far more often than I do.
