98 - What work do you ship?
It’s no April Fools Day. There will be no newsletter on April 1 as I enjoy some R&R between chemo and radiation.
What work do you ship?
“As I matured, I realized that perfection was not the goal. Instead, always doing your best while shipping work regularly is the goal. I try to always abide by this concept.”
Last week’s article included the above paragraph. I got a few questions about what was meant by “shipping work” so I thought I’d dive into that topic today (pun intended).
When I started Monarch Strategies LLC in 2022, I knew I also wanted to have some other creative outlets besides “consulting”. I do some writing, video production, photography, and other types of creative work. In many ways, I am what, in today’s vernacular, is called a Creative Entrepreneur. In online creative circles, the idea of “shipping” work is commonplace. And, the idea is important because the challenge of creative work is that you might never release it out into the world. It can easily feel like creative work is never done.
Creative work like writing, editing, course creation, and more can always be improved. You can always make them better. You can always add more content. You can always edit something just a little bit more. You can always improve just a tiny bit. If you don’t set a limit and “ship” the work, it might never see the light of day. Therefore, you have to set limits on what you’ll do before you “ship” your work. You have to establish a level at which you will share your work with the world.
So, this week’s questions are: what work are you shipping and what’s keeping you from shipping your work?

Get cash back at the pump
I’ve been using Upside for well over a year now to get cash back at the pump at occasionally at restaurants and on groceries. With upside, you can also see where gas is cheapest which, especially right now, is handy. To get started using Upside, download the app (links below) and sign up for an account. If you’re so inclined, you can enter my referral code: KARA3995. Then, join me in getting cash back. I’ve earned about $50 in six months through nothing more than a check in when I get gas. I don’t drive much anymore though so I know folks who have earned much more since they fill up their tank far more often than I do.
