I struggled a bit to get into this book. Overall, the RULER approach that Brackett explains in Permission to Feel is excellent. Since I was reviewing and ARC one of my major complaints may be resolved in the final printed copy - which was that there were no in text references throughout the chapters. While there are extensive references in the end of the book, to not be able to tie references to specific points made easily was very disappointing. I was also put off pretty early in the book that after defining emotions and feelings and making the case that you're trying to become an "emotion scientist" by reading this book that Brackett will now treat emotions and feelings interchangeably in the book. That just makes no sense to me.
While I am critical of these two elements, again, overall I think the book is well written, accessible and a very valuable read for anyone seeking a framework for growing their own emotional intelligence.
