Happy Pi Day!
For the non-math nerds amongst my readers, today is known in the nerd community as "Pi" day (it's 3-14). My friend Robbie and his wife Linda (also a math teacher like me) brought pie to the office today to celebrate Pi day. Robbie and I shared an especially geeky moment where we decided that 1:59 (either PM or AM) would have been Pi Moment within the day. For those of you that haven't had the first 200 or so digits of Pi stretched around your classroom at some point in your history - I'll give you the first 100 - 3.1415926535 8979323846 2643383279 5028841971 6939937510 5820974944 5923078164 0628620899 8628034825 3421170679 ...I used to give prizes to students in my class who could memorize the first 200 from the big poster that wrapped around my room - only two or three did. It's useless knowledge but it was fun and gave them something to do that the two or three who actually did it were really proud of themselves for. I wonder if I still have that poster in my math teacher stuff which of course I still have almost fifteen years later.
Tonight's picture is awful. I ran out of time and nearly forgot to take one - but I've made it this far without missing a day. I'm certainly not going to miss Pi Day. And I thought the photo of my Excel window - which I was in all afternoon at work and all evening at home compiling and analyzing data for a presentation tomorrow - was appropriate on Pi Day. Lindsay decided her "new" ball needed to be in the fuzzy shot as well. Can you see all that dirt on that "new" ball? The ball that is less than one day out of the tube. Yes - that ball. Oy vey! Someone remind me to buy stock in tennis balls please.
My internal clock is all screwed up - as is the clock of every living creature in my house. Ben Franklin was a really great guy who did amazing things for this country (thanks for the libraries!), but I think he should have kept Daylight Savings Time to himself.
Happy Pi Day to all!
