In memory...
"Those who do not know how to weep with their whole heart don't know how to laugh either."
- Golda Meir Earlier this month, I had to say goodbye to one of my best buddies - my cat of thirteen years - Dipstick. I chose this quote because I truly did weep with my whole heart that day, but Dippy always brought me lots of smiles and laughter.
Dipstick, and his sister Fluffy, came to live with me. My friend Melissa gave both kitties to me just shortly after my grandmother died (who I lived with at the time). Living in the big, old farmhouse alone wasn't going to be enjoyable - but living there with two little kitties would be okay. And, they were certainly little...
The two grew up together and were often as close as they could get. It was not at all unusual to find them snuggled up like this.
Dippy was the best cuddler and had the most beautiful blue eyes. Everyone that met him loved his beautiful blue eyes. Dippy made up to everyone and got lots of snuggles. He found the best places to lie down for a nap. And...he was always willing to help...particularly if it meant keeping me from working. He could open just about any door - especially the old pocket doors in the farm house. I had to install child locks on all the cabinets to protect him.
He liked playing with his fuzzy mousies - which was fine with me because as long as he and Fluffy have lived with me they have done their job of protecting me from the real kind. He went ape over cat nip and he loved treats. The vet always told me I really had two dogs (Lindsay and Dippy) and one cat, because like a dog, Dippy always wanted to be with me.
My dad asked me shortly after Dippy died how many pictures I had of him. I found about 250 as I was preparing this post - although I don't think that's all of them as I wasn't nearly as good at saving photos digitally when he was tiny. He certainly was one of my favorite photo subjects though.
I will miss him terribly!
